The new urology building was highly commended at the Building Better Healthcare Awards.

We are delighted to announce that the Stokes Centre for Urology was highly commended at this year’s Building Better Healthcare Awards. The project, which creates a major new facility for the Royal Surrey County Hospital, had been nominated for “Best Interior Design Project (New Build)”; Katie Thompson, our Senior Interior Designer, accepted the award on the night.

A collaboration between the Prostate Project and the NHS, the centre is a sector-leading facility for treating prostate cancer patients. It consolidates many specialist services (diagnosis, treatment, recovery, outpatients and research) under one roof, creating a “one-team” approach that results in better patient care.

The Stokes Centre for Urology

Getting the patient experience right for the Stokes Centre was crucial, and we focussed on creating a welcoming, comfortable, and professional environment. Strong levels of natural daylight, double-height spaces, air conditioning throughout, and products/materials with limited Volatile Organic Compounds all contribute to the therapeutic environment.

The commendation recognises the early and continuing success of the centre, which is attracting referrals from across the UK and abroad. The Trust now has plans to collaborate with the nearby University of Surrey to support its ongoing research into prostate cancer.
