OVERVIEW

The Photographers' Gallery

ADP was appointed as architect for the detailed design and construction phase of an extensive refurbishment and extension at The Photographers' Gallery. The largest public gallery in London dedicated to photography, this 20th Century building is tucked away in vibrant Soho not far from where ADP’s London studio was originally based.

The first step was to take off the top mansard floor and replace it with two new storeys. The layout has been reconfigured and now boasts three floors of high quality gallery space and one floor of office space. An additional education floor has a large curved moveable wall enabling flexible reconfiguration. The café has been moved from the first floor to the ground floor, at street level to attract more customers, and the bookshop now has the generous space of the basement. Works also included the addition of a new lift, fire escape stairs and toilets.
