OVERVIEW

Science Centre

ADP was commissioned to design a new Science Centre for St John's School, which would replace the existing single storey biology building.

The new facilities are needed in part to attract new pupil scientists to the School particularly for the sixth form intake. We held a client consultation with the project steering group to discuss the preferred teaching methods of the staff and School, discussing how this can affect the spaces we can design. Diagrams were used to explore themes from teaching styles, science and ‘servant’ spaces, adjacencies, breakout and extras and were key in consolidating the brief with the steering group.

With a heavy emphasis on interaction within the science teaching, we are working with a specialist AV supplier to install a series of projectors and speakers for video projection directly onto the walls of the laboratories. In the heart of their historic site, the next generation of scientists will be emerging having benefited from state-of-the-art science facilities.

The project is being run by our Corde team, ADP as architects, KJ Tait as mechanical and electrical engineers and AKS Ward as the structural engineers. For more information about Corde, our integrated design company, please visit the website link to the right hand side.
