OVERVIEW

Reading Town Hall

Our work at Reading Town Hall, a Grade II listed building by Sir Alfred Waterhouse, involved the major restoration of the exterior, including a new south tower after wartime bomb damage. Internally, we have implemented creative adaptations to provide a conference centre, concert hall, museum and art gallery.

An old light-well has been transformed into a new atrium gallery with a modern glass lift as its centrepiece, while the 740-seat concert hall has been painstakingly restored with Heritage Lottery Funding to create a national venue hosting a wide variety of events.

The redevelopment programme has created a new cultural focus for Reading town centre. As host to the Museum of Reading, it has provided a centre of excellence for life-long learning through historic objects and original documentation in the heart of the town. The project has received many accolades, including an RIBA Award and a Civic Trust Award.
