OVERVIEW

Life Sciences and Environmental Laboratories

ADP were appointed to deliver a design for the replacement of the laboratories for the departments for Biological Life Sciences (BLS) and Lancaster Environmental Centre (LEC). The design needed to amalgamate the needs of both departments into a two storey building situated on the car park between the existing LEC building and the library to provide connectivity to the existing departments.

The design evolved into the creation of 2 flexible superlabs that changed the way that prep work and teaching was delivered currently and in the future.

The concept of the design was to be ‘of the ground by contouring the ground plane up and over the building, integrating a living green wall into the connecting bridge link.

Internally the building accommodates two wet superlabs (96 and 120 person capacity) which allows for dual lessons to be delivered along with preparation by technicians. Greater efficiency of preparation was delivered by having all ancillary spaces immediately adjacent to the laboratory spaces.
