OVERVIEW

Integrated Centre for Engineering and Physical Sciences

ADP was commissioned to conduct a review of the faculty of engineering and two schools within the faculty of mathematics and physical sciences, namely physics and chemistry. This review resulted in the development of a new facility titled the International Centre for Engineering and Physical Science (ICEPS).

The new facility will provide a gateway to the university campus by redeveloping the Grade II* listed old mining building, demolishing the estates building and the central boiler house. The facility has been designed to create a model for new workplaces that will lead to improving utilisation, encouraging sharing and interdisciplinary working. The design will deliver the highest quality facilities for research - including computing, laboratories, clean rooms, low vibration,  optics, radiation, electronics, microscopy, low-temperature, NMR, bio-nano and biochemistry research areas.

The new development sits within a conservation area and is adjacent to the Grade II* listed chemistry building and nearby St George's Field. The new development forms part of the masterplan developed by ADP.
