OVERVIEW

Chiltern Skills and Enterprise Centre

ADP was commissioned for the redevelopment of the existing Endeavour Centre for adults with learning difficulties in Buckinghamshire. Funding to develop the Endeavour Centre was made available by the government and the building was considered suitable for modernisation and adaptation, to meet the needs of young people attending local secondary schools in the south of the county.

The building had to provide a contextual response to the surrounding environment whilst delivering increased space from the existing building.

The design solution provides a centre for welcoming the public to a facility which encourages interaction between the service users and the wider community.

The new entrance building consists of a full height glazed curtain walling to provide a welcoming light and airy space, providing visual links through to the courtyard garden beyond. Within the private courtyard, timber cladding has been introduced giving the building a warmer, more tactile feel.

The external public elevations of the new accommodation wing and entrance building are finished with insulated render to complement the existing brick. The roof of the new accommodation wing is finished in dark grey concrete tiles which are robust and hard wearing; this contrasts with the entrance building which has a sweeping mono pitched roof.
