Work Starts on New Science Teaching Laboratories

Work has begun on the Sciences Teaching Laboratories for the School of Applied Science at the University of Huddersfield. ADP is working with BAM to deliver the new labs, which are set to transform the delivery of undergraduate Applied Sciences at the University.

The first project to be delivered under the new consultant framework, the project incorporates two 120 capacity “super-laboratory” facilities, the building will support new ways of teaching, promote inter-disciplinary learning between science disciplines, and create outreach laboratory provision for close working with local further education establishments.

The building will be home to the new course in Optometry complete with public consultation facility, encourage the public to use the facility and provide a fantastic real world experience for the students.

Providing a welcome addition to the campus, the new building creates an engaging public realm. The distinctive form of the building with the shielding south elevation wrapping around the corner to scoop pedestrians into the new courtyard, also contributes to a site specific environmental strategy. Our approach optimises natural light, minimises solar gain and delivers a low maintenance energy efficient facility.

The project is due to complete in August 2019.
