ADP Scoops Four RIBA Awards

ADP’s design for Jesmond Gardens Primary School in Hartlepool was announced the winner of the RIBA North East award, the RIBA North East Sustainability Award, the RIBA North East Building of the Year and a RIBA National Award at the awards ceremony last night.

The school's design is based on the principles of transformational learning, which encourages children to learn independently on a personalised learning journey. It combines intuitive flexible spaces, agile furniture strategies, and state of the art technology to enable pupils to grow in their own way. RIBA noted that ‘all the spaces feel well balanced, are seamlessly integrated and every space works hard’.

Feedback following completion of Jesmond Gardens Primary School has proved overwhelmingly positive. SATS results have already improved and the school is now over subscribed for the early years, with absenteeism reduced and the children’s aspirations increased.

RIBA commended the ‘ambition of the Headmistress to turn around a school through clever use of design merged with her own ideas about flexible pedagogy’ and that this had been ‘well interpreted and developed by ADP.’

Charles Greenall, ADP partner of our Newcastle studio who attended the awards evening said it had been ‘a very special night for ADP.’ The RIBA awards add to the Civic Trust Commendation and RICS Award that the school also won earlier this year.
