New Allotment Garden at Alderman's Green Primary School

5 May 2010
This morning, the new allotment garden design by ADP for Alderman’s Green Primary School was featured on local radio station, BBC Coventry and Warwickshire. The topic covered by local gardening expert Steve Brookes was featured during Annie Othen’s regular morning programme. Landscape sector leader, John Newman, was at the School and briefly appeared on the show.

The scheme, developed under HTI’s (Head Teachers and Industry) Greener Communities Scheme, creates an outside space that can be used as both an interactive learning tool and helps the children to develop a sense of ownership. The allotment will be integrated into the everyday curriculum to help educate the children about food, nature and the growing process.

ADP's landscaping team has worked closely with the School and partnering contractors Wates throughout the project, holding workshops for all stakeholders, and a design competition for the pupils. The resulting scheme was inspired entirely from the children's own designs and is already being enjoyed by the School's gardening club.
With some of the children coming from socially deprived areas, with limited access to outside space, this process has been beneficial and enjoyable for all involved.

The allotment will be officially opened at a ceremony later this month.
