Former Partner Passes Away

David Mitchell

1 April 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce that David Mitchell, former partner of ADP, passed away last weekend.

Through his long association with ADP, David always seemed to be the epitome of good health, a regular sailor and cyclist; however in recent years he had been less fortunate, a situation he bore with his customary good humour.

David was an integral part of ADP from the very beginning, joining the practice when it was formed by the amalgamation of Victor Hutchings' practice, for which he worked, with John Fryman's, in 1965. He became one of three "second generation" partners in 1975. His range of work was diverse, and he was closely involved in some iconic projects such as the Water Research Centre in Swindon, which was widely published at the time. He subsequently specialised in healthcare projects and he led a programme of cancer care units throughout the country. In the period leading up to his retirement, David devoted much of his time to developing our Yeovil office.
David's greatest skill and interest was in design, and he was a brilliant watercolourist. In the early days of computer aided design, computer generated graphics left a little to be desired, and ADP would frequently turn to David, often at short notice, to quickly compose one of his watercolour paintings. He had a real talent for capturing the essence of a project, giving it warmth and personality, and often this is just what was needed to win over a doubting client or planning committee.

Over the years, so many staff at ADP have enjoyed working with David, with his approachable manner and ready wit. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Judy and the rest of his family.
